It is part of a good man to do great and noble deeds, though he risk everything. ~ Plutarch

While food and exercise are important to us, it is by no means the only area we focus on. For us “health and wellness” incorporates all aspects of life.

We don’t care if you’re eating kale and lifting heavy things all day long, if you aren’t striving to be a well-rounded human, then the picture isn’t complete, and your life can suffer as a result.

End of story.

Being a healthy-balanced man means:

1. Having an unrelenting drive toward living a life of meaning and purpose.

Because living an aimless life is not living at all.

2. Treating others with respect, and fairness.

A human is a human. We’re all born, we all laugh, we all cry, we all bleed, and we all die, and in our book… that makes us equals.

3. Being in service to a greater good vs selfish gains.

We believe that life yields the greatest results when you live to make the world a better place than it was before you leave it. Some of the ancient tribal cultures of this country made decisions based on the impact it would have for the next seven generations. We think that’s a pretty good rule to live by.

4. A commitment to becoming a better version of yourself.

Because getting by without trying is no longer acceptable. Do whatever it takes to reach new heights. Life gets better when you do.

5. Always be in a state of learning.

Someone much smarter than us once said that standing still is the same as moving backwards. We agree.

6. Keeping things simple whenever possible.

Because life can sometimes be complicated, the simpler you make things for yourself the better off you’ll be.

7. Leading with humility.

We’ll let Marcus Aurelius, one of Rome’s greatest emperors speak for us on this one: “When you have done a good action, and another has had the benefit of it, why crave for yet more in addition—applause for your kindness, or some favor in return—as the foolish do?”

8. Knowing when to ask for help around your emotions, and inner dialogue.

Too many men are committing suicide for lack of seeking help. It’s ok, you can express your emotions and still be a man.

9. Feed your mind, body and spirit.

That means eating good quality food, using your body the way it was designed to be used, and taking time to connect in your chosen spiritual practice. Because… number 10.

10. You come first!

If you can’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of anyone else.

There it is. Ten key principles we live by at The Vital Guide. This list could’ve easily been twenty items long, maybe even fifty, but then that wouldn’t be keeping it simple.

We’d also like to add that we aren’t claiming to have full dominion over these ten principles. We are human, and that means we are flawed. But what we do have is a strong commitment to doing right by ourselves, by our loved ones, and by you, our readers.

We live, we learn, and we deliver the lessons of our life experience to you.

Begin applying these ten principles one at a time, and you'll be on your way to becoming a balanced and healthy man.

So what do you think? Agree, disagree? We’d love to hear from you. Leave us your thoughts in the comments below.

In health,

Pablo & Michael
